The Mystery Boxes

One of the fun things about BVL‘s Wonderful Witchy Women With a Cause event is that each year, we’re thinking of new and different details to make the latest event just a tad bit different from last year.Kendra

This year, we will offer mystery boxes provided by Kendra Scott. Who doesn’t love a mystery? And…you guessed it. Each box will contain a piece of beautiful Kendra Scott jewelry such as a necklace, a bracelet, or earrings. The jewelry contained within ranges in value anywhere from $50 – $200!

So, for every $50 donated at the Kendra Scott table at the Wonderful Witchy Women event, you will receive a box and can solve your own mystery with the added benefit of showing off your newest acquisition. How’s that for immediate gratification?

We are excited about this new idea. 100% of all donations goes towards the funds we are raising for our non-profits. Kendra Scott is a jewelry  business with a strong philanthropic spirit and we are grateful to them for sponsoring the jewelry.Samantha.Kendra

So, when you arrive at the event, find the Kendra Scott table filled with the cute little boxes and make your donation(s). There will only be 60 total boxes and hundreds of attendees expected. Oh and here’s a hot tip – there is no limit to the number of donations you may make. (Yea!)  Fair warning: these may not last long.  😉

Behind the Scenes – Making the Video

The Bella Vista League kicks off the program each year with a video. This video includes interviews with representatives from each of the non-profits supported by BVL and personal stories told by people helped by the non-profit organizations.

As the video plays, more often than not, throats become dry, eyes begin to water, and hearts feel heavy as the attendees listen to the families relate the crises they faced. Everyone is transfixed by the dejected tone in their voices and the pain they suffered. But then, they move onto how that non-profit offered their help. Strangers that only knew their faces and their need. There is wonder. There is gratitude.

And through their journey to get back on their feet, they learn their own strength. With the guiding presence of the non-profit, they learn to stand on their own.

And the tears fall. Not a single dry eye in the audience. And this is why we are all here.

The making of this video is a challenge to keeping one’s composure for our BVL members that create it. Oftentimes, they could feel their own eyes water as the personal stories are told. They want to stop, hug them, and cheer them on. But they have an interview to complete and a video to produce. A piece that truly is a work of love.

Enjoying Flavors of the Season

There is not a single detail that goes unplanned at the Wonderful Witchy Women With A Cause luncheon. Everything (and I do mean everything) has been well thought out, created, organized, and coordinated. So, it should not surprise anyone that select members of our group do a food tasting at the Fairmont to ensure that all attendees dine on a memorable, scrumptious meal. And this year, our luncheon guests will enjoy:

Fresh breads and butter will get everyone started.

First course – Petite Poached Pear Salad – Frisee, radicchio, endive, orange segments, candied walnuts, bleu cheese with balsamic vinaigrette.

Second course – Entree – Chicken or Vegetarian. Chicken: grilled chicken breast with butternut squash risotto, seasonal vegetables, thyme shallot jus (foreground in photo) OR Vegetarian: Japanese pumpkin ravioli with Alfredo sauce, broccoli, and seasonal vegetables (background in photo).

Third course – Dessert – A trio of Ginger Snap Trifle in a chocolate tulip cup, Apricot Trifle square with pumpkin sauce, and Burnt Almond Bite with raspberry sauce.

And of course, there will be plenty of regular/decaffeinated coffee, tea, iced tea and water to go around.

Bon appetit!

“Casting Spells of Kindness” 2017

SAVE the DATE ==>  October 27, 2017 – Fairmont Hotel, San Jose

The ladies of Bella Vista League are revving up again to create another spectacular event to support this year’s well-deserved non-profits. After much consideration, we are pleased to announce that this year, the following non-profit organizations will benefit from our Wonderful Witchy Women With A Cause efforts:

FamilySupportiveHousingFamily Supportive Housing (www.familysupportivehousing.org): For 30 years, Family Supportive Housing has guided families from crisis to self sufficiency. While keeping families intact, Family Supportive Housing focuses on single or two-parent families to address their needs for food, shelter, employment, and education.

OperationFreedomPawsOperation Freedom Paws (www.operationfreedompaws.org): Operation Freedom Paws empowers veterans and others, such as family members, with disabilities like Post Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain Injury to restore their own independence. Encouraging a special therapeutic canine-human relationship between veteran and rescue dog through training for several weeks enables these individuals to feel safe, secure, and able to manage their everyday lives. As one veteran’s daughter said, “The day you gave us our service dog was the day you gave us our father back.”

CityTeam_HeritageHomeHeritage Home (www.cityteam.org): Cityteam’s Heritage Home is a residential program to help pregnant women successfully overcome homelessness, addiction, and other hardships to become loving mothers to their newborn babies.

The work that all of these organizations do to help local people in need is extraordinary and we are looking forward to doing everything we can to help. Please join us in helping these non-profits to continue their work by coming to the 2017 Wonderful Witchy Women With A Cause luncheon and silent auction on October 27, 2017, at 10:30a.m., at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose.
