Non-Profits Selection for October 2018

TabletopPumpkins, witch hats, fall leaves… not quite what you were thinking about as you looked out of your winter window?

Not true for the Wonderful Witchy Women. Images of Fall are starting to form in the minds of the members of the Bella Vista League. Phase one of planning for our annual fundraising luncheon event is already underway. The BVL committee responsible for coordinating the selection process for this year’s hopeful candidates to benefit from the 13th annual Wonderful Witchy Women with a Cause fundraising event to be held in October, is hard at work vetting each non-profit organization so that the BVL members can vote on them.

It is stunning to imagine the number of people who need help in our own “backyard.” We hold onto hope when we learn that there are so many worthy organizations providing meaningful and positive change for those in need. Nonprofits ranging from an eating disorder clinic to domestic violence – families and children in crisis can be found throughout the Bay Area. A record, 17 nonprofits have been nominated by the BVL membership. One of the many benefits of BVL membership is the ability to nominate a non-profit organization and participate actively in the final selection.

Hey Wonderful Witchy Ladies, please feel free to share your thoughts on any of the Bay Area Nonprofits we have served in the past or hope to serve in the future.

A Comedian, A Singer, and an Amusement Park

What do an amusement park, a comedian, and a singer have in common? You guessed it – all are signature events at the silent auction fundraiser. Entertainment items for bid are always a big hit at the Wonderful Witchy Women event. And the ones below will certainly not disappoint.

My childhood is filled with wistful memories of many trips to this land of fantasy and fairy tales. Despite the hordes of visitors, Disneyland will always hold a special place in my heart. Make your own special memories for you and three friends with this fabulous package.Disneyland Page

Behind the Scenes – Basket Day

As it so happens this time each year, BVL members are all focused on pulling off yet another successful Wonderful Witchy Women With A Cause event. Everyone is on one committee or another helping to get things done. There are tasks, though, that require a lot more hands than are already part of that specific committee. So, dates are scheduled in the calendar for everyone in BVL to know about, come join in, and help. One of these dates is “Basket Day.”

“Basket Day” is when we create all of those fabulous display items for the silent auction like you see below:

A lot of thought has already gone into the contents of the packages. And quite a bit of planning has gone into the types of containers and sizes needed, the filler, the organization, the bows, and more, much more.

On Basket Day, we gather at a member’s home where production lines have been organized and start packaging everything. Does it sound tedious? Sure, this kind of thing can be, but <smile> this group knows how to make things fun. It’s kind of like a mini party before the big event. It’s one of the things that’s special about this group – the camaraderie, the desire to help out wherever it’s needed, the gratitude for everyone’s efforts, and the fact that every member embraces the purpose for which this work was created – helping the less fortunate in our area.

There are so many great auction packages, imagine how well some of these could go together. Because if one idea is great, another together must be awesome!

How does 3 professional hair and makeup artists, 2 professional photographers, champagne, and appetizers sound for a fabulous ladies afternoon IN…then OUT on the town? OR what about making this a special gift to your teenage daughter and four of her girlfriends? Get four of HER girlfriends together to have their hair and makeup professionally done then professionally photographed before…prom? This nice little package has so many possibilities.

Behind the Scenes – Centerpieces

Once again, Steph J., head of the Decor committee, has come up with a spectacular centerpiece for the Wonderful Witchy Women dining tables. She has been noodling on these one-of-a-kind art pieces for several months now and finally, she gets to see her finished work. They are, in a word, stunning.

The star of the piece is a porcelain witch. She joins her sister witch from last year’s artful centerpiece in the long line of famous witches to adorn the Wonderful Witchy Women tables. Both are part of a collectible set, “The Pendleton Witches,” imported from England. In fact, each lucky centerpiece owner will receive a short booklet describing the origins and stories related to the Pendleton witches.

Each Pendleton witch is entirely handmade with hand-painted porcelain faces and boots. The “spell books” in the centerpiece are real books that were found at a charity rummage sale. Steph J. and her committee transformed these books by hand painting and stenciling each one into “Spell Books of Kindness.”

All in all, the decor committee spent over 400 hours creating a total of 60 centerpieces! Considering the expectation of hundreds of attendees, you don’t want to miss out on purchasing your own as soon as possible. They will be sold for $85 each and available online before the event and at the event itself. Here’s a sneak peek:

Gorgeous, eh? Did I mention there will only be a total of 60 centerpieces? Yes, that’s right. Don’t hesitate to snatch one up as soon as you can. See you at the event!
